Our Personal Injury Law Firm Wants You to Stay Safe on the Water This Summer

Posted on in Personal Injury

Summertime is finally here, which means we will all be taking to the roads to spend time with friends and family. If you're lucky enough to live in an area with plenty of waterways, boating can be a fun activity. But, unfortunately, it can be a tragic activity. Here, our attorneys experienced in personal injury want to provide you with some tips on staying safe and having fun on the water this summer.

Take a Boating Safety Class

While sitting inside of a classroom may not be how you envisioned your summer vacation, if you're taking part in boating recreational activities, you'll want to take part in a boating safety class -- even if you don't own a boat. You never know when tragedy will strike, so it never hurts to have certified boating safety skills.

Maintain Your Boat

If you're a boat owner, you want to ensure that your boat is in tip-top shape before taking to the water. Check to make sure all equipment is in working order, and look to rectify any issues before you put the boat in the water. While you can't prevent all mechanical errors, staying up-to-date on your boat maintenance decreases the chances of mechanical failures.

Invest in Life Jackets

If you own a boat, you must invest in life jackets in a variety of sizes, making sure you have enough for your adult and children passengers. If you are heading out on a friend's boat, it certainly never hurts to bring your own jacket. A high percentage of people who drown in boating accidents weren't wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.

If you have been injured in a boating accident, contact us. Follow the above tips to ensure you stay safe and have fun this summer.
