Personal Injury Lawyers Urge Car Accident Victims to Seek Medical Attention

Posted on in Personal Injury

Car accidents, even those that seem minor, can cause significant injuries. Far too often, individuals fail to seek immediate treatment for their injuries because they do not recognize the severity. When a car accident occurs, the body releases adrenaline, also called epinephrine. This stimulates the sympathetic nervous system and can block pain and other sensations. In other words, you may not be able to feel the full pain sensations and may not realize the you are injured.

It is not unusual for individuals to wake up the day after an injury to significant pain. It is best, therefore, to seek medical treatment after an accident if you feel any pain or notice any signs of injury. Signs of injury include:

  • areas of redness or swelling
  • widespread abrasions or contusions
  • bruising, especially if the area shows any unusual swelling or bumps
  • head pain, dizziness, confusion, or a lapse in consciousness (no matter how brief)
  • limited range of motion in any of the joints

If you experience pain or any of the above signs of injury, seek medical treatment right away. Some injuries may require immediate treatment. In addition, should you delay treatment, insurance adjusters may question your injuries. Most emergency rooms have a fast-track treatment option for individuals in minor collisions. Medical personnel can quickly perform x-rays and other imaging tests and treat cuts and abrasions. If you show signs of significant injuries, specialists are available to provide further treatment.

Never disregard pain following a car crash, and remember to follow-up with a personal injury attorney if you are injured through no fault of your own. Contact Jachimowicz Law Group right away for further assistance!
