Alexander McQueen Employee Files Racial Discrimination Lawsuit

Posted on in Employment

A former saleswoman at an upscale Alexander McQueen boutique has filed a lawsuit against the British fashion house, alleging discriminatory treatment because of her race. The 43-year-old woman, who happens to be Hispanic, alleges that she was called several racial slurs during her term at the fashion house.

The woman worked at the trendy Alexander McQueen boutique in New York City's Meatpacking District. According to the lawsuit, she was called several offensive and racist slurs during her term in her job, including “Goya princess,”“taco smoke” and “burrito face.”

Her racial discrimination lawsuit claims that her boss at the boutique called her offensive names, and frequently made insulting comments that were based on her race. In one case, according to her lawsuit, her boss informed her that she had greasy hands just “like a Mexican,” and also cautioned her that he did not want any of the products to “get messy.” In another case, she was falsely accused of stealing from the workplace, and using drugs at work.

Alexander McQueen is the design house that Kate Middleton used to design her wedding dress. Sadly, this is not the first time that this house has been exposed to a racial discrimination lawsuit. In July, a former security guard at the store claimed that he was subjected to racial taunting and slurs. His lawsuit claimed a hostile work environment because he was an African-American.

The high fashion retail and luxury fashion industries have been battling allegations of racial discrimination for several months now. Over the past few weeks, for instance, both Macy's and Barneys have been named in racial profiling lawsuits that claimed that black customers at the stores were racially profiled.
